Oracle always advise not to change flexfield structures once defined as this may invalidate data.

How common is this requirement and has anyone added segments to flexfields. Have you had any issues?

Cheers,

Delboy

I've a vague recollection of once having 2 business groups using the same job structure and the business decided they needed to have unique structures. When we moved one business group to the new structure it resulted in the assignment records (including historic records) having to be updated to point to a revised job id. Can't remember encountering any other problems.

Hi Del,

We use around 10 BGs, and had to change the People Group flexfield for some of the BGS.
But we did not have data in the flexfield column for the new BGs, so it was fine..

If you're adding new segments to a flexfield, you will have to validate all the data.. Can be done, but need to be managed properly - all child objects need to be updated, elements links etc using the Ids will change etc..

Log an SR and Oracle might provide scripts.

Cheers,
Vignesh

Thanks Vignesh. Think I might try an alternative solution. Sounds a bit messy.

Hi Delboy,

Hope all's well.

We recently added an additional segment to our position key flexfield without issue.

Take care

Marina

Thanks Marina. Yes, I'm fine, hope you are too.

That gives me a bit of comfort. We did create a new segment some years ago and, like you had no issues, but Oracle keep harping on that you should not really do it.

Cheers,

Delboy
