Hi all

Firstly I would like to know whether the Oracle Apps AUDITTRAIL functionality is being successfully used on any of the big sites Worthy Down, Warwick et al...

What are the pros and cons associated with this.?

Also looking at Oracle's database features/trends whereby fine grained auditing offers more flexibility and policy based control, is the Oracle APPS audittrail likely to become redundant.

Assuming that majority of the Apps installations are using 9i or 10G is Fine Grained Auditing a better compliance tool than the Oracle Apps AUDITTRAIL which can be difficult to report.

Please let me know your views.

Thanks
Vin

We have auditing switched on here in Warwick, but only in a limited capacity.
On the following tables:
PER_ALL_PEOPLE_F
PER_ALL_ASSIGNMENTS_F
PAY_ELEMENT_ENTRY_VALUES_F
PAY_ELEMENT_ENTRIES_F
PAY_PERSONAL_PAYMENT_METHODS_F
PAY_EXTERNAL_ACCOUNTS

However we do not audit all columns.
Pointless if you ask me, as the only time we look at the audit is when we're trying to track down activities when assignments get corrupted (something that happens with an alarming frequency here due to some rogue custom library work).

Hi, this is just a quick reply...

We use AuditTrail to audit various columns associated with
supplier details, banks and employee information. Customer is responsible for reporting on the captured audit data internally so our involvement is/was limited to setup & sizing.

We also looked at FGA to support the customer requirement to monitor browsing users, but found it totally worthless. 'SELECT' statements are captured so can generate a lot of captured info, which is then very difficult to tie back to a business activity, let alone to identify any 'suspicious activity'. FGA also has no reporting, at least audit trail gives you some Views to play with.

Welcome Andy.

Good to see that old topics don't die smile

For what its worth, Auditing has now been disabled for the NHS project. Data volumes and the fact that the information given is not of any use.

They now have a custom solution in place to track and record change events on specified tables and columns, coupled with useful reporting.
