I read somewhere last week that approx 40% of contracts advertised require security clearance (either basic or SC level), but that only 10% of contractors actually have the required clearance.

It would seem (to me at least) that the only way of getting such clearance is to actually work on a project that requires it, with either the client or employing agency making the application for clearance on your behalf.

Is there anyway of being able to get such clearance in advance? I.E. could my company apply for the relevant clearance level for me (the employee), so that i could then go for such contracts knowing i have the clearance in place at the outset?

It should be said that i used to have cleance many moons ago, but this has long since expired.

Cheers

Baz

I'm not sure - I guess that even if you 'had' clearance, a new employer would have to check that with the relevant agency. They wouldn't be able to take your word for it...?
