We are in process of re-implementing Oracle EBS to higher version.
We were wondering whether we should go for 12.0.6 or 12.1.1

Consulting which is coming in to implement is proposing 12.0.6 but we were wondering whether as 12.1.1 is already out should we just go for 12.1.1 because in 6-7 months time 12.1.1 will be old..

Any ideas? thoughts?

Hello,

R12 is no longer bleeding edge, it's all quite stable (as stable as Oracle gets anyway) now. I would suggest you go 12.1.1, as, exactly as you noted, if you go 12.0.6, you will just have to go through another upgrade in 6 months or so. Also, Oracle will always suggest the latest family packs as solutions when you encounter problems.

Not meaning to be cynical, but maybe Oracle Consulting are looking to an opportunity to maximise their revenue stream with the further potential upgrade from 12.0.6 to 12.1.x in the future.

However, having said that, you should check that there is an upgrade path from your current version to 12.1.1. There is always the possibility that you are restricted to upgrading to 12.0.6.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Shiva
I'd go 12.1.1 - why start an implementation afresh with an old version of the software? As Peter mentions, if Oracle have the gig then they will be wanting to maxmize future revenue streams by way of an upgrade.

I know of at least 3 potential upgrade sites who have held back to await 12.1 being released. I think that they are now planning the upgrade route (from 11.5.10.2).

From a personal perspective - get some early 12.1.1 exposure and you can increase your market rate in the contract market smile

Regards

Barry

Shiva
as a bootnote to this post, i read the following from the 12.1.1 release press published on Oracle Blogs regarding taking 12.1.1 over 12.0.6...

Steven Chan:
Hi, Prasanna,

I would strongly recommend 12.1.1 over 12.0.6. 12.1.1 includes many product enhancements and other updates for stability, security, and performance that aren't included in 12.0.6.

Good luck with your implementation. I look forward to hearing about your experiences with this release.

Regards,
Steven

Very true !!! We have circulated the same note all over the place... but from looks of it has fallen on deaf ears.. we are going with R12.0.6... no questions asked.. frown ..

We have got into a mode of accepting what we are getting and "moving on" after we do this upgrade ..

One thing you need to consider is what the base release will be used for the end of year 2009/10. We have been told it's 12.0.7, so that's the one we are going to upgrade to...(we're on 12.0.5 at the moment)

Yes, that was exactly our point, that if we go with 12.0.6 then anyways we have to upgrade HR to 12.0.7 for payroll year end patches.. so what is the point of going to 12.0.6.. and 12.1.1 was already out.. so it was pointless..

Hurrah! Sense and sensibility rule the day smile

There are a lot of goodies in 12.1 and 12.1.1
