Noetix views are top notch. A couple of clients I worked for in my Oracle days bought them(in 2001). Mind you Oracle's BIS was still in its infancy then...dunno how they rate against Oracle's offering now. . .The only downside is all their package code is wrapped. so me being a hacker and all wasnt that impressed.

Hi Gus .I was not aware Noetix had a solution for UK Payroll. .'Epicentre' from Edenbrook is a specialist Oracle Payroll reporting solution that can be used by Discoverer or Business Objects. It it more than an EUL/Universe as it employs Indexed Materialised Views that are rebuilt only after changes to payroll results. It is intuitive flexible and easy to to install (1 day normally). It meets 90% of all payroll customers from day 1 and comes with 3 days free consultancy to reach 100% fit. Customers include Warwick County Council Telewest Guardian Newspapers 3 South West Water... .Check it out http://www.edenbrook.co.uk/products/epicentre.aspx

A payroll EUL alongside the current HRMSi disco stuff was mentioned at a recent meeting I attended with Dev.

Had some bad experiences with the Noetix views a few years back. Poorly written and very inefficient. .Strangely enough I went for an interview for them (or the company that owns them) several years ago. .They were very short on Payroll experience and a lot of their HRMS views had been built by ex-financials consultants! .I did get offered the job but Dominic Leslie was working for them so thought it best not to persue it... . .I would assume if they are still going that they have improved them.

While we are on the subject what is a ball-park figure for building and testing an EUL in Oracle Payroll? 10 days seem about right?

Tricky one this. It does depend on how complex your reporting requirements are. .The EUL here at *** ended-up being largely re-written because it did not satisfy all reporting requirements. .As it happens most of the important Payroll reports were built as reports (in Reports rather than Disco). . .I wouldn't sell it short and 10 days does sound a tad on the light side for Payroll.

Also from experience if it is a payroll EUL it is best to go for materialized views. . .I remember one of the academic types from a Big 5 organisation build ad hoc queries for payroll which had to be stuffed at the end.

FWIW the Payroll EUL from Noetix is comparatively new - here at the airports we use the HR EUL they tried to flog us the Payroll one but it was pretty grim so we didn't bother taking it. The HR one has been heavily customised too - not necessarily the fault of Noetix though some pretty wacky parameter requirements saw to that!
