I suspect i've made a rod for my own back with this one...
I have a Dell Laptop running a 64-bit version of XP. This is so i can load it up with memory that actually gets used (currently 8Gig). The excessive amount of memory is needed to run lots of things together to become a self-contained development machine.
On it i have an R12 instance (running in a VM - thanks to the chaps advertising on the right-hand-side of this site

)
I also have TOAD (v10), Jdeveloper 10g, Oracle 10g client tools etc etc
Most of it seems to work well, with the exception of JDeveloper. I cannot get it to compile code without it throwing a Java IO Exception. Most of the googling of the error seems to hint that its proably due to the OS.
My question (eventually) is this. Is there anyone out there using
64-bit version of
Windows 7 and is also running JDeveloper? I'd prefer if its 10g rather than 11g JDev as the 11g version is bloaty beyond belief. If so, please let me know so i can consider switching OS's.
Also, if anyone has successfully managed to get JDeveloper and SQL*Developer working on a Linux Client then please also let me know how - i have failed dismally to get either to run on any of my Red Hat flavours, and that is despite studiously following the notes on OTN.
Thanks in advance
Barry
