If you mean from a legislative perspective, then it would probably depend on the legislation. To my knowledge, it has no bearing on calculations for Tax/NI in UK legislation. As for other non-statutory stuff, well I guess it's feasible that some calculation could be on the basis of Marital Status. Although again, I have never heard of such a thing being done on any site I've been on.

I would assume that if its required for US Legislation, it should appear mandatory in the "seeded" US responsibility.

I've taken a brief look at the create_us_employee api, and it doesn't seem to require a marital status be entered, so my guess is you're fairly safe.

As per CT's comment, the Marital Status isn't mandatory in US legislation, to my knowledge. However, if you are utilising Advanced Benefits, and to a lesser extent Standard Benefits, the Marital Status is often an integral component of the plan design. E.g. for Health plans, family coverage may be extended to the spouse of married personnel, whilst not being extended to a de-facto partner.
