[b:08b602e743]The wind of change is a blowin' through the trees.[/b:08b602e743] . .Up to now it's been pleasing to see the growth of this board. What started out as a hand full of hackers trading online insults has expanded and we now have over 100 users. . .However all is not well in the land of ex-hrcon.com and it's time for some changes. . .[u:08b602e743]First up is a name change[/u:08b602e743] .Whilst ex-hrcon.com was amusing to some those of you who never passed through the practices of John Winnington Colin Brookes & David Ray or who never even worked for Oracle consulting are mystified by the URL name. It could even be implied that this site has only been created for express use by the 'clique' that worked in these practices and all the rest of you should seek enlightenment elsewhere. .This is obviously the wrong impression and is far from the truth. .The aim is to provide a meeting point for all HRMS consultants and to facilitate the exchange of ideas and questions irrespective of how you ended up plying your trade. .To this end we will shortly have a new name. Please give a warm welcome to www.hrmsAces.com (or www.hrmsAces.co.uk if you are that way inclined). For those of you with an iquiring mind the 'Aces' bit is supposed to stand for "Applications Consulting Experts". .The ultimate aim is to cover the major ERP HRMS products (SAP Peoplesoft and Oracle). This is a longer term goal but we may as well try to aim for it. We have provider-specific sub-domains (peoplesoftAces.com SAPhrAces.com and OracleAces.com) that will [u:08b602e743]eventually[/u:08b602e743] come on-stream to provide direct access to sub-divisions of the main bulletin board but the initial focus will be on hrmsAces.com . .This rebranding will happen within the next couple of weeks. An email will be sent out to all registered users and the existing URL will repoint to the new name during the transition period. . .[u:08b602e743]Next up a change of hosting[/u:08b602e743] .Whilst not directly affecting you all we will be moving across to a new service provider based in the UK. It has been aparent that during the afternoons the response times for the board have been slow. This is due in part to the fact that we are currently hosted on a shared server in the US. The server plays host to a large number of other (unrelated) bulletin boards all competing for resources. By moving across to a shiny new server in the UK we hope to improve the service levels and response times. .This will take place sometime in August and a short notice will be emailed to all registered users. It is hoped that we can migrate all the user registration data and forum posting archives across to the new system. . .[u:08b602e743]Finally world domination![/u:08b602e743] .We have over 100 users. However only about half of you actually use the board. Some have not bothered to return since registering despite a recent email 'reminder'. .In order for this board to be a success and in order for it to become a useful worthwhile service it needs people to use it! So the final change is one that each and every one of you can help to achieve. That is publicise the site. Tell your colleagues friends clients managers whomever. .We cannot compete with official support channels for Patches Bug fixes and Upgrades etc. But for simple inquiries questions hints & tips Implementation war stories and for generally boucing ideas off eachother I think this forum can provide better service than support ever can. But to achieve this it does need people to use it and make it work.

If they work in apps (HRMS Payroll Training Recruitment) then yes. Eventually we'll have forums for the main ERP packages (well SAP Peoplesoft and Oracle for now). .I guess even HRMS professionals and business /management consultants are welcome.

A quick update... . .Part 1 of the first phase has been completed. .I now have a dedicated server and am awaiting install of the UBB bulletin board software. .I have a holding page set up on the www.hrmsAces.com URL. .Sometime during the next 24hrs this holding page will incorporate the current board. . .Next steps.. .Part 2 will be to install and configure the new bulletin board software. For those of you who are BB savy i'm using UBBThreads (see www.ubbcentral.com). This is powered by PHP and will also use a MySQL database back-end. . .Part 3 (and final part of phase 1) will be to perform a trial migration of the current board configuration (users and forum postings) over to the new forum.

Another update... .Slight change of plan as i'm having some difficulty in getting the current hosts of this board to play ball in giving me a proper extract of the data. . .I have installed the new forum software onto my server and have begun the initial configuration of it. This was a piece of p**s to do - possibly the easiest DB install ever. . .Over this weekend I will be performing a trail migration of the user and forum data. This means that this board may be down for a while (not that I expect many of you to use this at the weekends). The data will be comming from the database backup files (hence my posting on the technical forum) - the way its going at the moment I'll be reliving my data migration days - taking the raw data into some holding tables manipulating and generally reformatting it to the new requirements and then uploading it into the new database. The only difference being that I dont have someone from Development insisting that i use API's  . .Depending on how well this goes monday will either bring this original board back online or it will redirect to the new board under the new URL. . .Stay tuned
