I'm migrating positions from an 11.0.3 system to 11.5.10. I have all of the old position data in a temporary staging table on the new database.

The problem I'm having is that positions in the old system have been created at various times when there have been fewer segments. So the name field from the positions table has a different number of segments concatenated than what is needed ion the new system. The create position api requires this name to be passed in.

Does anybody know of a job or something I could run in the legacy system to update the concatenated name of all of the positions so they have the same number of separators(.) to reflect the latest number of segments?

Alternatively, does anyone have any other bright ideas about how to overcome this; short of getting groups of all of the different lengths of names and updating them?

Thanks,
Dan

Try loading it with the 'name' variable forced to null. The position api should rebuild it based on the segment values supplied, and send it back to you anyway.

Obviously if you are looping round a number of rows, then keep resetting the variable to null prior to the call to the api, within the loop.

I've tried and it says that the name is required when using the API

Thanks

That's odd... What's the exact error message you're getting?

ORA-20001 : FLEX-MISSING CONCAT VALUES

I've tried a couple things now:-
Building the name from the position definition segments as a concatenated string and passing it through.
Removing all value sets from the position keyflex

Any ideas gratefully received!
Thanks

Could you post the script you're trying to run? Also, at the risk of stating the bl%$%$in' obvious can you check:

1. The setup of the position keyflex, e.g. that dynamic inserts are allowed etc

2. The value of the System Profile option called 'Flexfields:Validate On Server'

Edit Reason: added another thing to check

I figured it out!

The sequence number in the position keyflex was the same value for two of the segments.
As soon as I changed one to a different sequence number it loaded OK. Very strange...

Thanks very much for your help anyway

Ah! Bit of an odd message for something like that... oh well, you've got it sorted so that's good news.
