I work for a company that uses Oracle Payroll and we've been having some issues recently with rehired employees not having checks cut for them. We do process their pay but once the information is transferred to Oracle, the pay no longer exists. All employees that this has happened too are rehires and most have a -2 next to their assignment number. Any light you could shed would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!

Is there anything in the cheque-writer concurrent program log that might look like some kind of error message? Don't worry about the '-2' , it is merely Oracle ensuring the assignment number is unique across the whole assignment population, and is a common feature of rehires, secondary assignments etc

Have you checked if an assignment process exists for the chequewriter ?

What do you mean by this statement :- 'We do process their pay but once the information is transferred to Oracle, the pay no longer exists.'

Transferred to Oracle ??

How exactly are you processing these emps ?

We process pay through a homemade system through our global payroll. After we process it, it is linked to oracle creating the actual pay. I assumed that the -2 was just the second profile for these people but it was the only common denominator.

You mean, you run payroll through a 3rd party system, then actually pay out through Oracle Payroll?

I am at a loss to know how Oracle Payroll can do that! The payroll processes are heavily interlocked - Payroll run -> pre-payments -> cheque-writer etc - which of those processes do you actually run in Oracle, and what information is interfaced from the 3rd party system?

You cannot import 'pay' into oracle only elements (in general) you would have to actually pay in oracle and run some of the processes mentioned by CT to be able to do BACS or Chequewriter ??!!

Is this the payroll checkwriter, or the financials checkwriter?

I have come across implementations where payroll is calculated in an external 3rd-party system and then the Net pay figures are imported into financials in order to have the cheque's generated.

Not sure on the legitimacy of this method though

Sounds a bit flakey to me. Why would you want to process payroll from one system but pay out from another. The only reason I can see why you would want to interface the payroll figures is for costing to Oracle GL, assuming you are using Oracle Financials.
