Hello

Does anyone have any experience of migrating from Oracle Discoverer to OBIEE, and in particular using the approach here:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/bi/disco-to-obiee-1531409.html

I am particularly interested in this statement at the end and what it translates to in terms of effort?

Your migration is now complete! However, there are some important additional considerations.

For example, there is a fundamental difference between OBIEE and Discoverer in the preferred relationship model. In the Business Model layer of the OBIEE repository, the relationships between tables should represent a star schema - as a minimum requirement there is a dimension table and a fact table. In comparison, Oracle Discoverer doesnít demand any special type of relationship between data. For that reason, if the Discoverer data model doesnít represent star schemas, changes may be needed after migration in order to respect this structure. Otherwise the repository will not be available and enabled for queries.[/i][/color]

Thanks

Adrian

Earth, Europe, England, here
Hello Adrian

We are starting a major implementation of OBIA - however we are building from scratch rather than migrating our existing Disco EUL etc.
As you have inidicated, the Disco data model does not meet the requirements for OBIA/OBIEE. I'd would not want to try and migrate Disco to OBIEE - would be far more beneficial to rebuild and redesign/develop your reports from scratch.

We are replacing our existing Oracle Data Warehouse with OBIA (as this already using STAR schema's with FACT tables).

Regards

Barry
