Morning all, and HNY and all that....

Now then, to cases. Here at W-D our friends have decided that as a post-migration excercise, they need to import a couple of balances from another system. Obviously we can't do Balance Init a second time, so I was pondering the use of this PAY_BALANCE_ADJUSTMENT_API.create_adjustment

Now has anyone else used this in anger, if so are there any war stories or gotchas I should be worrying myself into a frenzy over?

We've had to use it here to sort out the mess from the migration - a mess only discovered several pay periods into live (ha ha ha ha ha).
Actually, i think some of the funkie monkeys used dataloader via the balance adjustment screen to do this, rather than let us hackers loose with code.

If you want more info let me know - James O'D is your man - i know he's registered on this site, but like many others (alas) does not seem to frequent.

As an aside, i take it you have been extended at W-D then?

Yes, it seems from looking at the API code that it wants the relevant details of the element that's going to feed the balance(s), but I wonder - does it actually do the assignment action as well?

Normally, we might load an element entry eg via a MIX batch, then we'd maybes do a payroll run on an element set that is only that adjusting element. I just wonder if the create_adjustment does all the ele entry, assignment action etc in one fell swoop as it were?

Interested to know, what mess was encountered on the original Balance Migration, and was it my fault?

In answer to your aside, yes I have been extended. Til end of March.

if you're still after info on this we have used the api in question in the past and it was very successful. We also managed to write a delete wrapper to remove the rows, You never know when that might come in handy!

Cheers Ian, however events have somewhat overtaken us here - the problem went away of its own accord, which is always nice. Thanks anyway for the info.

Cheers

Clive
