Does anyone have any experience with implementing Oracle BI and EDW in an 11.5.10.2 environment?

Am part way through an implementation and have encountered some problems. I would like to have a general discussion on issues and directions if possible, before I start handing lots of, some what unspecific, TARs off to Oracle.

Thank you,

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter
I don't, however the project i am on has implemented BI and EDW (we're on 11.5.10 RUP2).
The BI/EDW guys are permies and have not yet been enlighted to the ways of HRMSAces. If your questions (or at least initial questions) are able to be summarised in an email/PM then pls drop me them and we can use them as an opening gambit.

Regards
Barry

Hello Barry,

Thanks for the offer. I do have two issues, that I had put down to my implementation. I also have a "How can I do it" type question.

The first issue is that there seems to be very few of the BI Discoverer HR Business Areas which actually contain any folders, and few if any of the seeded BI Discoverer reports will open or run. However, this actually appears to have been an issue with the import of the ".eex" file. I hope we can fix it by dropping and recreating the EUL.

The second issue is with the HR DBI Setup. The Job Hierarchy and related views are populated according to Oracle's instructions, and the views show data. But when accessed through the HR DBI Dashboards, they show only the default "Undefined" value. I have a TAR open about this with little progress to date.

The last question relates to out HR implementation. We have HR, Projects, and OTL, amongst other apps. For OTL we user Projects and Payroll timecard templates. Because of the Payroll bit, all personnel (permanent and agency) are configured as System Person Type "EMP" so that we can link the associated Pay Elements. We do not use Oracle's Contingent Worker functionality. Does your contact know of any way to configure BI so that it can separate the employees from the agency personnel when Oracle CW definitions are not used?

Again, thank you for your help.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter
Don't thank me until you've read the reply i have got back...

Why do you think we have a custom Discoverer EUL?? smile

I’ve never really got my head around HR and Payroll HRMSi/DBI/EDW/whatevertheycallitthisweek Discoverer “solution”. From my experience it’s clunky, for us slow, very American in view, too simplistic for end user reporting and generic (although I’d have to say that in some cases the folder structure is probably better than what ESR custom has come up with).

BTW, any TAR with the word “Discoverer” in is serviced by a dog called Colin that lives in a remote farm in Mexico.

My suggestion is for them to form a project to roll out Business Objects with a developed universe. It will probably save them money in the long run smile

We do have a completely bespoke EUL for Disco and BI pub reporting and also have a custom extract/population process for building/refreshing our DW.

We did look at DBI but again none of the out-of-box functionality did it for the exec users. I think we now have a custom portal for top-level management intelligence.

Sorry its probably not what you were looking for or expecting.

Regards

Barry

Hello Barry,

Thanks for the response. Not that surprised. I realise HR/Payroll DBI is uncommon. Unfortunately, the client I am implementing for hasn't the budget at present for a tailored solution, so we're using DBI to at least provide some reporting and a (theoretically) reasonably functioning EUL.

Thanks for the assist.

Regards,

Peter.

That reply you received is priceless.

Peter

Not sure why you are getting your first couple of problems, but on you 'How do I' question - from my experience you won't be able to without developing your own reports.
